You pre empted yourself with the 5C bid, Kathryn. Whatever you do now is a guess. I guess I bid 6C, primarilly to try and avoid a double game swing. Who knows, maybe it will make.

No, definitely not. I would make the lowest forcing C bid that I could make. For us this would be 2NT, same as if 1M were doubled.

6♣, though I fear 5♥ and 6♣ are both -1. It seems reasonable to gamble that partner has a stiff heart on the auction, though it won't happen all the time. The 5♥ bidder could have 5 hearts, but since partner and the doubler should have reasonable values and we hold 1/4 the deck ourselves I would expect the 5♥ call to be more on distribution than high card strength.

Agree with the_hog that I would have made a forcing club raise (or XX and bid clubs) at my first turn, however you would bid that in your system.
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

We have extra strenght for the 5♣ bid, normally this means we double now, but with 8 cards in clubs this seems so wrong.

I doubt west has 6 hearts, he is so likelly holding a 5-5 red hand, wich gives partner 2 hearts most of the time, even 3 is possible. MY best guess is that 5♥ will go 1 down in 2 spades and a diamond, or maybe 2 /3down if ♣A cashes and we can ruff diamonds. I double.

Crazy hands deserve crazy bids :)

I think at the table, I would have bid 6♣ on my first turn. It might make, or induce a bad 6D/H/S by ops, or be a good sac. Also if we play it, they are left groping for the right lead (not having communicated their heart fit).

consider changing, so that 2Nt (or something) is a l.r. + in clubs, or whatever. But this hand doesn't fit a nitch. I like the 6C bid some people suggested on the previous round. But probably would have bid only five and been in the same predicament. :angry:

2NT should definitely be a raise of opener's suit. But I wouldn't use it on this hand since it is imossible to "show your hand" with 8 card support. Did your RHO really bid his 4 card suit from 6-4 on the 5 level???

It seems to be a recent trend to bid (a much weaker) 4-card suit with 4-6 combination.
