your hand is Axxx T98x JT9xx -
all red, partner (1)opens/(2) overcalls opener's 1C with 1S, rho double. what do you bid and how clear is your decision?
to clarify:

2H = good Spade raise (usually 8-10, 3+ cards)
2S = rubbish spade raise (5-7 on these colours, 3+ cards)
3H = mixed raise (6-9, with 4+ cards)
3S = pre emptive raise (0-6, with 4+ cards)

i don't think any other bid makes sense, but just in case, fit jumps are on

oh i forgot. how man of you bid GAME? in either situation?
btw this is sort of like an idiot check. i have a good idea what should be the right actions, but i have difficulty convincing my partner

Then why is there no poll option for 4?
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

just bid 4s in either circumstance and especially at imps. It is not that you have only 4 points. Your spade length has hurt partners hand defensively and you have 2 or even 3 club ruffs making your hand way too strong offensively to make lesser bids. You also have little defense so preemption is the way to go. If you want to make a case for 3s at MP to try and steal a board I can understand but 4s is still probably your best bet.

Voted for preemptive raise for both, but intended for 4, not 3, for the reasons of the last poster and for common sense.
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

If pard opens, why bid 4?

What makes you think they are making 5?
Or 4? They may not have a 4-4 heart fit.
Will they try for 3NT?

Spades rule, let them bid at the 4 level and go down. You have high spots in the reds and 4 hearts. Maybe you get Xed at the 4 level.

<I just don't see this as an obvious 4, but I could be wrong>

In the case of an overcall, pard doesn't need to have as much as when he opens.
But he could still have a decent hand. Maybe 4S is a better bid than if pard opened. If you fear the opps making game.

letting the opponents play at the 4 level or whatever they pick with a large fit and distributional hand is a very very bad strategy arclight.

I am contemplating bidding 4 to help partner decide when they bid 5, but I think I would just blast 4 and let them guess.
