Whatever is my forcingest raise, possibly 2NT... Not 3 anyway.

what is your objection to 3? Clearly assuming you don't play it as preemptive which really doesn't make sense anyway since you are a passed hand.

Lots of good players do not like to splinter with a singleton honour, especially an ace or a king.

What is your 3N Ron?

I don't mind 3, I'll disucss this with my regular partner.
I'm confused, 3games per day is taking it's toll - is 2 here a mini splinter?

How about bergen then 3 over 2 ?

In Standard (both American and Acol) p - 1H - 2S is a fit jump.

I won't disrespect a pickup partner with 4H, either. This hand is too strong for a LAW bid. 2D, if natural and forcing by a passed hand. Otherwise something other than a splinter to show this big raise. Whatever that something is depends on what we have agreed to play.

I am not so offended by a 4H bid.

If you want to go through J2N or something, OK, I can live with that too.
What I really want to do is find a way to show a hand that's bidding game because of its distribution but does have some values to it. Perhaps if Bergen is on, I might try a limit raise followed by raising myself to game or something.

I don't much care for the splinter - partly because of the SK but more so because I have xx in clubs, and partner will be visualizing Hxx or Hxxx in both clubs and diamonds, if I splinter in spades.

(And, aqua, if you can find someone who plays 2D forcing by a passed hand, ok, that'd work. I don't remember ever running across a non-beginner who did play it though.)

I don't know what his is, but here's mine: splintering here allows opps to get into the bidding cheaply with dbl and besides there's little point in splintering a suit you have wastage on :(

Agree to 4, unless I'm playing some sort of forcing raise.

4h or 4d if playing full bergen.

4d=5+trmps and 1 to 1.5 outside quick tricks, less than 10 hcp.

3NT would show a raise based on long trumps and a smattering of high cards, iow what we have.
I think 3S is a pretty poor call, btw, firstly a stiff hon and secondly read Nuno's post.

With a pickup I wouldn't trust that they understand any fancy call.

Yes, there are two groups who play it still forcing for one round: beginners, and certain old people who remember when it was a one-round force and haven't come kicking and screaming to two-way drury. Some of us still use 1NT forcing by a passed hand, too.

I can handle the scorn :P I remember a tourney where a top pro who has known us for years got a good chuckle when he found out we still use 2/1 as a 1-round force and forcing NT when a passed hand. But, he understood how it can fit in for Drury haters.

I like Drury here.

Forcing, low level, and I may learn something useful about the hand my partner holds.

It's my firm belief that any given partner is likely to play 2NT as natural on this auction, a spade splinter seems awful, and 4 hearts, although practical, won't give me any real chance to blame partner for missing slam if we happen to have one.

4 with a stranger, 2 (the Jacoby 2NT) with partner.

We play normal system on by passed hand, with a natural 2NT being shown by starting 1 (the forcing NT). As the J2N shows at least 4 card support and an opening hand, he will wonder why I was asleep on the first round, but it can happen !

Hi, it was a pleasure meeting you. 3D was a feature.

The tournament was quite a surprise to everyone. We budgeted for a 10% reduction from last year because of the Philadelphia games, and if attendance held up today we had over a 10% increase from last year. Players are learning that Seaside, Oregon has a lot to offer.

Thanks, nice to meet you too. Sorry I didnt have more time to visit, all I was doing was playing bridge and when I wasn't playing, I was trying to sleep. :P

Not that I saw a lot of it but Seaside seems like an interesting spot with plenty to do. The venue was great and the $10 entry fee affordable. I heard some grumbling about district 19 having increased their fee's so I wouldn't be surprised if the attendance at Seaside continued to increase. With any luck, I will be back next year.
