pass....forcing of course.

Closer to double (regressive) than to bidding 5N. While I love my shape, and controls, my texture is so bad that I can't commit to slam when partner merely committed to game. I don't think he will play me for less for my forcing pass.

Yep, PASS the bucket to partner, let him/her make the last mistake.

I'm playing slam. The void is huge and the rest isn't terrible since I don't have wastage opposite his short suit.

Has anyone paid attention to that odd 5 call? He or she may be an idiot and if I don't know them I would assume idiocy until proven otherwise, but any semi-competent opp will have a surprise in store for us by way of a side suit, which suggests that maybe our hand, with no texture, won't survive bad splits unless partner has extras.

6 for me. Pard asked me for a suit and I prefer this suit.

Don't really care for the 5 bid, as that sort of bid is often more tactical than rational.

Agree with this. I'm calling whatever I need to call to end up playing 5X.

(3♠) Dbl (4♠) 4NT
(5♠) ???

With no agreements. I have a nice hand... which appears to have got better with the bidding. Forcing pass seems in order for now.

Interestingly, something I have toyed with... 4NT here as lebensohl-style (with a hand not interested in slam) and 5x as mildy interested. Also playable over (4x) dble (P) 4NT. Any comments?

So you are sacrificing "natural" 4NT bid, showing minors. I think it's too deep cost for some more slam accuracy. As the saying goes, games first. :)

Oh and for the problem, I pass. Hopefully partner knows where I stand.

Are we going to sit if partner doubles? If yes, then pass, if no, then 5NT, because my hand isn't good enough for passing and then bidding, which is grand slam invitational IMO.

If my hearts were headed by the AK and my diamonds by the A I might pass and let X sit since I think there would be a higher chance of 2 hearts cashing than 2 diamonds. Here it's tough... if partner has 5 diamonds they might not both cash...

I really have no clue :) I bid 5NT since I can see us getting only 800 when we have 1370 and most openers won't bid their preempt twice so 500 won't be a good score against 600 for the other pairs sitting our way.

Edit: oops format not specified so probably not MP. even closer then!
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

For the non-experts who are reading this thread: what do you bid?

This hand seems to be pretty perfect for a double if using inverted forcing passes.

4NT is 2 places to play, not minors for me. I am bidding 6D.

Partner had on this one

Axxx
KQxxx

The right void and everything falling meant 12 tricks avaible in 6.

However I Was wondering if after a double at the 3 level vulnerable we were worth a forcing pass. I mean, we are more like in the low end of our range than at the top.

I think that partner's 4NT is off.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

A bad treatment is that 4Nt followed by 5H is slammish and a direct 5H is to play. A better treatment but dangerous is that 4NT si 2 place to play or not foward going with H and a direct 5H is slammish. (so in that case responder should bid 5H not 4Nt)

Also i would be in a FP because its preempter who bid 5S and because of the vuln. If it where preemptor partner who bid 5S FP should only apply if R vs W IMO.

Surely you want partner to sac if he think the sac is cheap.

For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."
