(1N) - dbl - (pass) - 2♣
(pass) - 2♦ - (pass) - 2♥

Dbl is long minor, shorter major
2♣ is pass / correct

What kind of hand bids 2♥ here and what shape do you expect?

I'd say typical shape is 4414, wants to play in 2C if thats the minor, and wants to play in the major if its diamonds. At MPs I'd be expecting some 4315.

I think it's a hand that wants to play 2♣ opposite clubs and 2♥ opposite diamonds. Maybe 3514?

I'd expect (43)15 but (43)24 is also possible. Of course you'd bid 2C with that. When partner bids 2D, you can decide to play in the 5-2, or try your luck with 2H. With Axxx KQx xx Qxxx, I think the 4-3 should play fine and maybe we even have a 4-4 spade fit.

(43)24 would be more common at matchpoints, at IMPs I'd usually pass 2D.

3325 would be quite uncommon, I would almost always pass 2D.

With 43+ in the majors advancer should bid 2D to find the major. Therefore, 2C-f-2H is something else. 3+C and 5+H has a higher probablity than a non-fitting 56+. But I guess either is playable.

Definitely not 4414, he would try to find the major to begin with.

I think he is something like 3613 or 3514 and overcaller should only pull with a singleton heart. In other words he wanted to play clubs opposite clubs but hearts opposite diamonds, but his hearts can't be good enough to insist on it or he would have just bid those to begin with. And he should have a singleton diamond, with 2+ he would just pass 2♦ if his hearts aren't good enough to big to begin with.

Therefore as usual, none of the poll options fit!

I play that 2♣ then 2♥ is pass or correct, if advancer wants to play in hearts 2♥ is bid immediately.

The choice of definition is basically: (1) play in a minor fit else partner's major or (2) play in a minor fit else my major, right? To me, (1) seems to have higher frequency of gain given advancer had the option to bid their major right away.

I should note I have never seen anyone bid this way, yet I have certainly seen choice of majors bid directly on hands that prefer clubs if partner holds them.

Partner was 4-3-2-4 and intended 2♥ as p/c.

I passed with 4=3=6=0

Well I hadn't seen this thread until now, but the same question occurred to me while playing last night.

I held 76 76542 J T8532 and my RHO opened a strong NT. Partner doubled in fourth seat showing 5+ cards in a minor and a 4-card major. What's my best bet? I figure he's got 5 diamonds and 4 spades, after all...

I think 2♣ starts a pass/correct sequence, if you have 3613 just bid 2H and blame life if partner has clubs. (Well, at least you stole their 10-card diamond fit.)
