Vul against not
RHO opened 1H, I bid 1S, LHO bid 2NT fit inv+, partner passed and opener bid 4H.
Should I bid anything, was 1S correct?

Some would bid 4 but that is too much for me at unfavourable.

If you happen to play intermediate jump overcalls then you could try 2.

Otherwise your choice is between 1 and 3. 3 would only be useful if partner expects this much at these colours.

Red against white you have to pass here imo.

I have always said I don't like to play intermediate jumps at any vul, but this is a good advertisement for them.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I love intermediate jumps. They make a number of hands very easy to bid quickly to game.

We play them at all vulnerabilities. Only at favourable do I have any regrets about not play weak jump shifts.

rho opened 1h we have a hand worth 7 tricks red vs white and not much defense
lets get this off our chest and bid 2s which shows a hand worth 7 tricks and not much defense. Pass is the order of the day after 2s and let partner decide what to do. At IMPs I would bid 3s over 1h but at MP cant readily afford to go -500 red vs white too easy to score a zero that way at IMPS no big deal.

Being a stodgy sort who never shows six trumps when I have 7 (or 7 when I have six), I would have just bid 3 the first time ---then listened to all the fine analyses by those who know when it is right to do differently.

Today, people define "intermediate" differently, and my old stodgy idea of that kind of jump overcall doesn't fit this hand either.

I agree that this is not an IJO. At this vul I would bid 3S, but I am certainly tempted to bid 4.

If you play IJO's this is a 2.5 spade bid but 2 spades sounds better to me. If you make the Q into KJ 3 is best.

Note to my former partner: if you play intermediate jump shifts in a position, then all jumps will show intermediate strength, you can't jump to 3 with a WJO.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Thanks for all the responses, I like best to bid 3S on the first round.
I didn't do it because I was too afraid of missing a game especially since I was playing with a passive partner but I guess even with her it was the best call.
