Scoring: IMP

pass-pass-pass-1[h]
2[d]-dbl-p-2[h] all pass

as fate would have it, this made 4 hearts

atb please

partner snapped at me for bidding 2 hearts , because the rest of the world would have bid 4 hearts

but after she callled me incompetent, i asked and the td replaced me mercifully

but if the fault lies with me, please direct me to literature where the rebid is 4 hearts

the score was imps

Don't listen to partner 4 is insane (double doesn't promise support, I'd rather not play 4 with Qxxxxx vs x as my trump suit). I'd bid 3 with N and accept with S.

100% North for me.

Agreed. Although it might have been fun to defend 2*.

Clearly, I was not suggesting that it was right to pass the double. I specifically said that I agreed with the previous post. I was just amused by the other bizarre possibility.

Oops there Bbradley. I was referring to north in the OP, not to your post at all!

lol bidding 4 with the S hand after a negative double is hopeless beyond words.

a beginning bridge player is taught that the north hand has invitational strength opposite a minimum opener. in fact, this hand is closer to just bidding 4 than passing 2, but 3 is good.

a very normal psychopathy: pard was making up excuses for his own misbidding. 3 on the north hand is 110% clear ;)

Would not consider any action other than 2 with the South hand. North has to take another call (3 seems obvious). South can then bid game, although bidding game is not 100% clear. The fit is very good, and still game is far from cold.

I'd like to bid 3 with the South hand but I couldn't bring myself to do it on Qxxxxx. Possibly the same could be said about opening 2 in 4th chair, although to me that's a better option than a delayed 3.

Anyway sure I blame North.

100% blame to North.. LOL she must have been sipping the cooking sherry (or something stronger) to think that you can jump rebid to 4 after her negX with a ratty 6 card suit.

An alternative way of evaluating hands is to consider the "losing trick count." Take a look at:

http://en.wikipedia....ing-Trick_Count

There are two methods shown there which, if used, would mitigate against a pass over south's 2 Heart bid, assuming the partnership has agreed that 2 Hearts promised at least 6 cards.

If 2H promises 6+ hearts, what is opener supposed to rebid with a boring minimum 2533?

Dealer: West
Vul: Both
Scoring: IMP

♠ Axxx
♥ AJ
♦ xx
♣ Qxxxx

♠ J
♥ Qxxxxx
♦ AKx
♣ Axx

pass-pass-pass-1[h]
2[d]-dbl-p-2[h] all pass

please refer your x partner (who should be avoided at all costs) to this forum so they may feel properly lamblasted for their part in this embarassing escapade.

the 2h bid was fine as it nicely shows 6 hearts and roughly a minimum hand (if the opps had overcalled 1s this would be a different story)

I have a question here---how dare you make your partner THINK??? I mean if you
had merely read their mind like any decent partner you would have found a 4h bid
and they could sit and continue being a proper dummy w/o all the work. To be honest at IMPS I would bid 4h with their hand after your 2h and invite with 3h with just a tad more balanced hand (take away 5th club make it a dia). I would not get upset if P chose 3h vs 4h and if P bid 3h I would bid 4h with your hand.

You did an excellent job of bidding --- keep up the good work your study of the game is paying off. Please go to FindAPartner.com for lessons on how to avoid
getting stuck with completely inept (and worse) irritating partners:))))))))

In case my little story was not completely clear I ATB 100% N
