Scoring: IMP

P-(P)-1-(X)
1-(P)-?

Only 2nd time playing with this partner, and have had no bridge discussion with them.
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

2N, even if we have no spade stopper in 3N they can't cash five of them.

I have sympathy for 3, with the auction ideally going 3-3 and now I can bid 3 but ATT I'd probably just bid 2NT. Partner could be the one with 4-4 in the majors as righty couldn't even bid 1.

I don't understand this hand, now we start jump shifting into 3 card suits because of a suit implied, not promised by opps, with a 5332? 2NT is what I have, 2NT is what I bid, bridge causes enough headaches as it is, we don't need to create artificial ones.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I mean, I bid 2NT at the table and it worked out (they inexplicably gave me a spade trick when dummy had Q98, but I could have also hooked in clubs for the Q through the Xer cause spades were 4-4) but I was just unsure if anyone had a huge aversion to 2NT given the likeliness of a spade lead through *cough* strength against 3NT.

Probably best to ignore minor suit doubles during the auction, especially if the doubler was a frequent forum contributor. I don't "wish they had passed", though. Might be able to use that information during the play. 2NT is fine.

Dealer: North
Vul: N/S
Scoring: IMP
♠ xx
♥ AK10
♦ AK98x
♣ A109
P-(P)-1♦-(X)
1♥-(P)-?

This hand is a lot better than most boring 18/19 quacky balanced hands. To
make game (which we stretch for at imps) we need little more than say
xxx Qxxx Qxxx Kx to make 5d or even 4h. How about KQ3 xxxx xxx Jxx to make
3n or xxx Qxxxx xx Kxx to make 4h. How about xx xxxx Qx KQxxx and 5c? Risk vs reward seems to indicate we try for game but what is the best method? 2N seems too weak for such a powerful collection (aside from the fact we have 2 small spades). 3d also appears to be too weak that seems to leave us with

3c

the most flexible bid by far allowing us to explore all of our game possibilites with small risk of getting overboard when p is totally balanced minimum. This bid also pinpoints spades as a probable source of weakness for nt.

If I could not force myself to bid 3c my next best guess is 3N since I can make with as little as Kxx xxxx Qxx xxx from p.
