1♣-(1♠)-2♠-(pass)
2NT-(pass)
can you pass 2NT with 10-11?, should then partner jump with 14 balanced?

simple bidding forcing or not?

Not forcing. Frequently 2♠ is made on an awkward hand with only four clubs. I was playing with a BB winner a month ago and he did it on a hand with 3 clubs.
So I see no reason that we need to force ourselves to 3 of a minor with inadequate trump when 2N is a perfectly sensible contract.

The question isn't so much "is 2NT forcing?" - obviously it doesnt show extras from opener - but rather "how far is 2S forcing?"... and I think for a lot of us it is GF, or at least promises a rebid. If I am responder, a flat 10 or 11 is NOT on the list of possible hands I could have for a 2S response.

My understanding is that 2S promises another bid so 2NT is descriptive (minimum etc. etc) and that it is the 2S call that created a one-round force on the 2S-bidder hmself. So the question is a little flawed IMO, and cannot be answered straight.

Hi,
I think standard is, that 2S in this seq. showes an hand witn inv.+ fit,
if opener accepts the invite he needs to show some live.
It is certainly possible to agree, that 2S is forcing till openers suit, i.e.
we play at least 3C, but this would be a add. agreement.
With kind regards
Marlowe

If 2S is inv+ for clubs, then neither 2NT nor 3C should be forcing, IMO. 2S cannot promise another bid if it is LR+, because 3C by opener would be a decline. 2NT is merely descriptive of the nature of opener's minimum, so also is NF.
And to Fluffy's final question: yes, 3NT doesn't show any more than 14. Opener would have to do something else at the 3-level with 18+ (assuming 15-17 NT).

how light can 1♣ be, if Al Roth light then 2NT is forcing, if I opened it is non forcing.
