I don't think it's a problem hand really.
Make it xx Ax AKQxxx KQx and we are talking but probably still 2NT due to lack of something else.
"Standard" is full of holes and this is one of them.

The way I see it, there are only two legitimate options.

I could bid 2NT.

If I think 2NT is not enough, surely a major rebid was not a surprise. I probably should have opened 2NT instead of 1.

2NT just seems right to me. 18 HCP, with a six-card minor. 8 controls (26.67-18=8.67=+2). I would have liked A109xxx in diamonds, but then that's too easy.

I opened 2NT.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

That doesn't surprise me. This hand screams for suit play, but since the texture of the diamond suit is so good, it is certainly worth a 2 point upgrade for notrump.

fwiw I do think jump rebids in a minor are a problem in 2/1......they are for me.

One partial solution is to open or rebid nt when you do not have a stiff or void.....

For me this was an easy solution if not perfect.....but I grant you can redo the hand I will have a problem......

2NT not close. Presumably part 2 will be less obvious?

2N is normal.

I assume the 'Josh-style rebid' is 2. Unfortunately not many problems are solved with that choice.

How can anyone think anyone would bid 2C with this hand?

I don't see how 2/1 has anything to do with the auction 1D-1H-3D, or 1D-1H-2NT.
But maybe it is just that I don't see.

Okay, I give up.
You agree with yourself "it is tough in 2/1".
I agree with myself that 2/1 system has nothing to do with the posted problem. It is all clear now :)

Fair enough

If 2/1 has nothing to do with this issue.

FWIW I thought 2/1 did...but you do not...
