Wrong trump suit?

Anyway, just another bad board, down 3. I thought clubs were agreed as trump, was that somehow unclear in GIB system? Or did I make a "systemic" mistake somewhere?
I had AK1087-K954-10-KQ4
GIB had 2-AQ8-J964-AJ1072

GIB thought hearts were trump, and answered appropriately.

Yes, that is what I thought happened.

But how could that have been avoided? What should I have done to make clubs trump AND check for controls? Should I have not shown the heart suit?

You could have bid 5 or 6 over 4 -- GIB would have passed either of those bids. This isn't the best system, but 4NT was explained as keycard for hearts so that couldn't have been right.
