If you think so, bet on it. You will get at least 50:1 I think.

Please let them stay bad at soccer for a long time, so we can discuss sports without talking about money.

Isn't this statement a bit laughable in the context of football/soccer, given that:

1. The amount of money (club revenue and player salaries) involved in MLS (top US soccer league) is trifling compared to top European leagues, and perhaps even the 2nd-level leagues.

2. The contant presence of money in news and discussions of European football (tranfer fees, club finances, etc.)

3. Gambling/match-fixing stories from Europe

hmmm nobody belives here (till now ), that Italy will defend the title. I would not depreciate Maestros of the Catenaccio in any way.

My bet's on Argentina this year. Messi is probably the best player in the world right now and they always seem to do reasonably well. I may run now being in the UK (1998)

I keep seeing commercials for USA vs England as THE PREMIER MATCH OF GROUP PLAY. I hope the US team can live up to the hype. We have some good players - none great - but we have a good keeper and a good deal of experience.

I think we'll need to play very, very well to make a splash this tournament. We're lacking some firepower, and we lack the discipline and control of the more experienced European teams. Uphill battle for us, I think, but I think we're definitely capable of something special if everyone's firing on all cylinders.

USA has a decent chance of making the Qtr-final.

If they win against England (as I chose in the Prediction Contest), they will easily qualify -- probably top the group. And even if they qualify as 2nd, there is no guarantee Germany will top Group D.

The impact of Group D results is that we could easily have England vs Germany as Round-of-16 match; the other match then becomes USA vs other Group D qualifier (Serbia? Australia!)

That's why I think USA has a decent chance of making the Qtr-final.

You get 1:8 odds for backing US against England on Betfair.

Serbia have a better team than usual this year. I mean I know Romania are a very crap team at the moment but still they beat us 5-0.

It sounds like you are pretty sure that team USA will make at least 2nd place in the group. I would not so underrate Slovenia and Algeria, the first one kicked team Russia out in the play-offs, Algeria made 4th place in the recent African Championships. Imo both are at the same level as the US team at the moment.

Algeria is a perfectly bad team, they will get 0 points this year, unless there will be some extremely favourable circumstances. This is just my little opinion.

Look at Algeria's qualification route. They were great in all home matches, but quite dismal in all away matches. I might place a bet that Algeria will be placed bottom of Group C.

Don't know much about Slovenia, but their qualification record is similar (great at home, not so much away). The difference is they have a superb goalkeeper -- but then so does USA. I still stick to my belief that USA will qualify.
