Is it only my subjective feeling that the level of play in this WC is lower comparing it with the previous two editions?

I think it's subjective.
Most games were boring in any WC, but you don't remember the bad games 4 * n years later.

brazil sucks. I agree with hanoi5, 1998 2002 and 2006 were all better than 2010. I am not sure about 1994, I was too little.
