Somewhat off track, but supposing you hold the example hand and double, then hear 1NT from partner... do you raise to 2NT?

It seems that 3NT is actually decent opposite several of the example hands.

Obviously the decision of whether to raise should depend on the range of 1NT, but while I believe this should be something like 6-9 (i.e. same as after an opening), I've heard a lot of people claim that they prefer 8-11 or similar. Won't this hand make game fairly frequently opposite 10-11 points with spades stopped?

I am one of those who advocates a very sound range for 1N, but even I give leeway for partner when the suit is spades, and we are NV so whatever, I wouldn't raise. I do think we will often miss game opposite 10-11 counts though.

I would 100 % raise if we had the same hand except 3325 and it went 1D X p 1N p ?

Seems "let's be nice" words doesn't exist in all vocabularies. Mikeh picked to cross the line.

You better stop lecture and focus the hands i presented. May like or dislike. You may feel yourself superior than many others or even top #1 of world . That's your dream and your problem, but not mine.

I don't care your funny stories. That's just monkey biz,

Try this? sure, why not Fluffy,

1 X P and you said you've KT983-T872-4-Q85. So would you pass to take out double with that weird shape? Remember, nothing said about t/o HCP range and complete shape.

Say you passed :
declarer holds AQJ64-Qx-Axx-xxx
for example your partner holds : x-AKJx-KQxxx-KJX. This also may be any different hand.

Easy 4H tho you beat 1S, right?

That's why i asked over 1S x promises exactly 4+H and 17+ or not.

Really when you overcall 2D at 2nd seat? Just 10 hcp and 5 timz suit? Tell me where it ends and where X starts in your book!

In original layout the cards I do not see at 2nd seat are :
S AKQJT
H AKT
D QJT
C KQJ

I only see xx-QJ9-AK9XX-ATX, OBVIOUSLY NOT A ROSE GARDEN.

25 hcp OUTSIDE! Nice dreams. Maybe you've some magic formulaes how to encounter such problems. The guys i met in real life mostly don't. The audience awaits you to enlighten 'em. Add something abt yrself. Only Fluffy knows better who is Fluffy.

I expect more witful tech remarks.

So nice to have h karluk back, I was getting worried we would be stuck with an intelligent bridge discussion, but instead we get the joy of foo with worse English.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Hey kid,

The meaning of foo was not found in my dictionary and lifestyle.

However in nearest national i will ask this problem to some nice guys widely accepted as heavy rivets in USA Bridge. I bet they are able to represent very meaningful explanations and tech evidences, reasonings.

You are an American but i am not and English is not my parent language. What a big deal. Sheesh. Take care!

My line to raise to 2N is 14-15HCP with a good suit, 16-18 balanced.

With 16-18 and a good suit, will just raise to 3N.

More important is whether you have a good suit, not that much about high card points. This is particularly true when opponent has already shown a long suit.

When you say something explain the reasoning. "I choose double rather than 2D because etc" gives an idea.

Otherwise that doesn't mean anything.

H_Karluk, what exactly was your reasoning? I know you are a great vugraph commentator and everybody loves you but what was your reasoning? Except a few ill-conceived example hands.

You are right choosing one over another is just a tally of preferences. In fact the double increases the probability of finding 8+ card and fit and 9+ card fits sacrificing the possible 8 card fit while avoiding the 7 or less card fit. The double also increase the chances of finding a possible game when partner is able to call 3 over the X. Most people here in the fora try to be somewhat scientific in choosing calls and recognize that example hands exist that indicate that any particular call could be a winning decision. It is the probablilty of occurence of these that is important. Consequently only simulations with DD play tend to indicate the probable best course of action. So give us the results of those simulations rather than example hands if you want us to believe that 2 is a better call than X.

ill-conceived? Ok, another Laurel Hardy fan, might speak about himself. Another one from bad crack voices chorus who can't live with opposite ideas. No big deal. Go slapping each others back, who cares.

Behave! I'm not in a good mood to buy arguments. Just read whole discussion and try to post some tech ideas like I did.

For now i prefer not to use much XL size English lingo, just giving you another chance to apologize, right and fair? In fact even my 28 y.o. son can hurt anybody to defend himself with his whip tongue more than that, but that's another story.

Stop flattery and trying to bother the people don't agree with you. Learn patience and virtue to listen counter ideas. Like or dislike, that's daily life.

Your ravings cannot help you to jump maturity in a second, instead put down your head into much troubles in real life.

Good luck kid!
