Yes easy 3 NT. :D
I love opps who miss vul. games and would hate partner who reopen with a lousy suit and minimum HCPs. So partner has full falues.

Easy 3NT opposite Fluffy, I am not quite strong enough to try for slam.

People have given this question pretty short shrift. Partner would reopen many hands with a stiff club with a dble, and he is quite unlikely to protect a weak hand with a poor suit (given that we have KQTx) - especially without a club shortage. Assuming that partner doesnt have more than 6 diamonds he could have one of the following shapes

(1-2)-6-4
(2-4)-6-1 ?Some would dble?
(1-4)-5-3
(1-3)-5-4

Particularly Given the lack of the a dble, or a raise from lho, it seems that the oppos must have a better fit in a major, and the fact that lho didnt raise suggests to me that partner has several clubs to go with his diamonds. There is a pretty good chance then of a second club stop. I'd be worried about passing 3d and lho backing in with a hand that has a decent 6 card major and a stiff diamond, so I think that 4d is still on the table - they could still make game if the cards fit well. Given that partner has entered this auction with probable club length vul against not and at best AJ98xx for his suit i would guess that the odds favour him having signifcantly more than a minimum.

All of this thinking hasnt quite convinced me that i should bid 3n as the downside of -2/300 when i could have gone positive is quite high. But i beleive that it must be pretty close.

No reason to expect partner to have some clubs. I think his most likely holding is a singleton (with LHO having a doubleton), followed by having a doubleton. I guess if RHO would frequently open 3 with a 6-card suit than a doubleton is more likely, but still there is no reason to think 3 or 4 clubs with him are likely at all.
I wouldn't double with a minimum (24)61 hand.

Oh and the downside could be -500 instead of going plus, and that's with partner having extras (KQxx KQ AJxxxx x).

What? you forgot to add the jacks for total waste! <_<

Anyway

Sorry this is pointless I know, but I found it funny :P

Reading this topic is making me think maybe 3NT is ridicoulous, I am thinking about retreating form my previous decision.

So, how badly does 3NT really do when partner has that unlucky hand?

The opps are favorable, I would expect modern opponents to have 6 more than 7 in general (though perhaps the fact that we have both the Q and the T makes 7 more likely than usual).

Anyway when I saw the hand I thought 3N wasn't the worst bid ever.

At the table I bid 3NT and got a flat board, the opponents were 1 off in 3D at the other table

Partner held something in the region of

I suppose I could have been taken 2 off on a spade lead but as the 3C was based on AKJxxx the doubleton club was led and the spade switch wasn't found.
