How should this auction go?
Individual Event SAYC, no time for discussion before play

3♦-3♠
4♦-4♠?
5nt???-6♠?
I could see playing this in 4♠, 5♣, 6♣, 6♠, or 6nt.

1. Many people who "claim" SAYC play a jump-shift as WEAK
2. You really shouldn't use a sjs with a 2 suited hand.
Here's my take on it [keeping in mind the (below) average person on BBO]
1♥ - 1♠
2♥ - 3♣
3♦ - 4♠
Now me, I would have directly bid 6♠ over 1♥ on this hand and hoped to get lucky, because it's too hard to describe to your (below) average BBO player.

Here's my far-fetched attempt:
1H - 1S
3D - 5S ( asking for 6S w/at least 2nd Rnd Ctrl in Cl --the unbid suit )
6S

1H - 1S (1)
2D - 3C (2)
3D (3) - 3S (4)
3NT (5) - 6S (6)
all pass
(1) avoid jumping around, noone knowes, how this will be interpreted
(2) FSF, since this occurs on the 3 level, no need to worry about
inv., inv.+ or gf, 3C is gf
(3) Now the meaning of the bid becomes fuzzy, could be 5-4, 5-5
(4) Should show a strong slam interested 1-suiter
(5) One has a club stopper, and one has to bid something, and it seems
the best description of your hand, of course 3NT may only show a
half stopper
(6) since p promised a club (half) stopper, this will be either Kx or Ax, it wont
be Jxxx, espesially given that p did bypass 2D, Jxx is a possibility, but not
likely
With kind regards
Marlowe

Which 2-suited hand would that be?

Responder (South), of course. Opener can never use a weak jump shift, since a wjs shows 0-6 HCP and 6+ cards.

1♥-4♠ (at 4 tables)
and
1♥-1♠
2♦-3♣
3♦-4♠, which occurred twice.
18 Norths opened 1♥, with the other two choosing 2♣ and 4♥.
Of the 18 responding to 1♥, 9 Souths bid 1♠, 3 bid 2♠, 4 bid 4♠, and 1 each for 2♣ and 4NT.
Of the 9 with 1♥-1♠, 5 bid 2♦, 3 bid 3♦ and 1 bid 3♥. The 3 responding to 1♥-2♠ chose 3♦, 3♥ and 4♦.
None of the 40 players ever bid 3NT.
The pair that scored the best had one of the worst auctions:
1♥-1♠
3♥-6♠
6NT-7♠
11 pairs played 4♠
5 pairs played 6♠
1 pair played each 4♥, 5♠, 5NT and 7♠
I still don't know what the best auction is. Too many forks in the road.
Does anyone bid 3NT after 1♥-1♠-2♦-3♣?

South has a 2-suited hand? You have got to be kidding.
