So many NT defenses, I'm thinking this has been done. What's it called if it has? Contrasted to DONT, it gives up the ability to play 2C (with just clubs) and it also gets high with S/C and minors.

dbl-hearts and another
.....2C-p/c
.........2D-hearts and diamonds
.........2H-hearts and side spades
2C-spades or spades and another
.....2D-p/c
..........2H-spades and side hearts
..........2S-spades and clubs
2D-diamonds
2H-hearts
2S-spades
2N-clubs
3C-minors

Could consider putting other meanings into bids...like dbl could show spades only with a better hand.

2 for the majors works so well, I can play almost anything as long as 2 is majors to be honest. I guess I am unfair but it really is very awesome.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Not sure what you mean. Perhaps not liking to be able to show spades/clubs before 2S is reached?

Not sure if I like this structure or not. It has the advantage of emphasizing majors (where we can compete most easily). It has the advantage of showing the major before the minor with a 2-suiter (contrasted to DONT) and it differentiates hands with both majors (i.e. which 5/4 pattern is longer). It has the disadvantage in getting too high with clubs or minors or S/C and it gives up a penalty double and it doesn't transfer suits so as to put opener on lead.

Hi,

have a look at

http://www.blakjak.d...k/def_1nt01.htm

more precise page 6.

Basically your structure looks similar to Pagan, which was developed
by Lionel Wright, who also developed Lionel.
Pagan was his first try, after that he tried Lionel, and his conclusion
was, that Lionel works better, which I think is true.

My explanation - The double gives the opponents a cue, but the 2H
cue is cheaper than the 2S cue, which basically burns the whole
2 level, so the cue you gives is less expensive for Pagan, hence hurts
less, and if the auction went

(1NT) - X - (Pass) - 2M
(Pass) - Pass - (???)

reopening the bidding is easeier, if we are talking about 2H.

With kind regards
Marlowe

PS: We like Lionel, it works pretty well, against all NT ranges, but you
need to accept, that you dont have a true penalty double against weak
NT, which is a thing not everyone is buying.
With kind regards

I took that part to mean spades and another suit, with 2 showing side hearts and 2 showing spades and a minor. Brilliant interpretation?
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
