Scoring: IMP

(4) - p - (4NT) - 5
(5) - p - (p) - 5...

4NT is RKC. EW are not used to playing together, but there is no doubt that 4NT is RKC and 5 therefore 2 without the queen.

I'd like to know more about E, but I can't picture a hand for him consistent with 4N being for real...how many keycards does he think a white/red preempt can have?

If E is anyone with imagination, he is funning us with this 4N and I would be very, very worried that 5 would be seem by partner as a mess of diamonds and nothing like this amount of power. Fortunately, I have been saved by the vulnerability and the opps. 5 seems clear....red, I am not offering a free shot at 500 or more (well, I may have, but I am not doing it knowingly) so I expcet partner to move with the right hand.

I would have bid 5 over 4N

If rho is a solid citizen, I still bid but I am very, very afraid.

RHO a solid citizen? He found opener with 2 keycards and didn't bid slam! I almost want to force to slam now even though it's totally crazy since I bet anything the "solid citizen" on my right will sacrifice. He has a heart fit and is messing with us.

Rate the bidding of the hand with the pointed suits just about right. 5H the first chance would have been a bit much. Whatever happens next is final for the two-suited hand. He has done his job.

Agree with the bidding so far. Partner can raise to slam himself we don't exactly have anything near a slam force hand....

Actually I think of east a very solid citizen. The type of player that seems to always put down a maximum hand in dummy. But since the opps are strong players there are no guarantees of anything.

Well perhaps he has messed with us, but I am sad to say it has worked. I will take the push to 5S anything else does not appeal and partner is still there, although it will not be easy for him. I think I have done what I can.

It has worked? I don't think so, we would have been in a horrible position had RHO bid 5H instead.

Either E is playing a deep game with us, or pard is really that dead broke. I choose option 1.

There's a good DOTW that Fred made back in the day about a hand from the Cavendish where he didn't think they could possibly have a keycard bid either...

I like the auction so far. RHO has solid I guess? Whatever, we're not good enough to slam force.

I wouldn't actually bid or force to slam on this turn, I was merely expressing my gross indignation that east thinks he can pull a fast one on me. Me!

Crazy stuff. I was south and partner chose to take a preference to 6 (thinking I might have tried 5 with a clear 2-suiter).

This is totally out of character for east, who is usually solid as a rock. Luckily for us east somehow forgot to double 6! Down 5 (I managed to lose 3*2 tricks) was still a bad sacrifice, even undoubled. :D

Most people will turn up with some really crappy defense for a bluff like that. A balanced 11 count is just wow.
