I really hate it in hand after hand where partners on bbo make free bids and have zero tricks on def.

Hi:

If that is your only rant, you are playing/watching a much better class of player than I normally see on bbo. Many here have zero or near zero knowledge of basic bridge bidding.

13 cards all in one suit has zero defense(except vs an unlikely NT contract 'if' you are on lead) and I would attempt to get to 7 of my suit. :)

If partner is bidding poorly, you should mention that your house is on fire and that you have to leave now.

Regards,
Robert

Was he "Advanced" or "Expert" :)

I try never to play with "Intermedaites" because since so many players lie, the novices say they are intermediates, while the intermediates say they are advanced/expert.

Disagree with the rant. I don't think a free bid promises any defensive tricks. The less defense you have the more dangerous it is not to bid. Opps may steal your board if you don't bid. If you don't bid with zero def tricks they may steal your board and even make their contract!

I really hate it in post after post where posters on bbo forums make nonsense posts and have zero value other than running up post totals.

Is this the kind of thing you mean, vulnerable against not?

Scoring: IMP

West North East South
                Pass  Pass
(1) Pass   (2*)   2

Some of my ex-partners bid like this. Rather than find a 2 or even 3 (not 3 for me at these colors..LOL) opening they'd rather let the opps both bid and describe their hands and then chime into the auction at more risk, with little chance to buy the contract undoubled and make and not even wanting lead.

Board 18 of the final.

The 2 bidder was Geir Helgemo.

I wasn't trying to judge his bid but point out that it must be difficult for some to understand why their bids are subject to a tirade of abuse, but well-known experts get congratulated when they appear to do something similarly silly.
