Having just read Ron Klinger's admonition in The Power of Shape to beware of hands where you're short in partner's suit, I pass.

I am really tempted to pass here at MP.

Actually I would. Not to sound like whereagles but it seems really likely partner has short clubs. I will look very foolish on some layouts, oh well, that's what MP is about right? ;)

I don't wanna go home yet the night is so young. Oh well, one for the road anyway 4S I just don't feel comfortable if I pass.

Hey Jeremy.

Precision with one partner, but 2/1 with the other two active partnerships, and usually with casual games, like this was...

I'd just pass then. I hate missing games, but a plus score is a good score, and there's no guarantee even of a plus score.

Looks like P>3N>4S to me.

Actually you'd have a moderately hard time getting me to bid 4S at imps either, unless you have a realllly high standard for your jumps to 3S (yes, I know some of you do.)

More or less.

Pard is expected to have about 7*(7/33) of the outstanding clubs, i.e. ~1.5 clubs. If he has 1, you're better off passing or bidding 4. If he has 2 you might get lucky in 3NT.

mikeh would bid 4 here, so I'll bid 3NT. Just COZ.

This sort of hand really depends on the agreements of suit quality for the 3S jump. Some players count 15-17 HCP and feel the jump in the suit is ok, others prefer the jump indicates a decent suit. There is a huge difference between AJ8642 and AQJ982. I consider the hand facing the jump to be rather good looking at a K and KQ combination and playing imps would have no problem bidding 4. Pairs is just a different story and we need to face up to the fact that many will not play game so I think we need to pass.

I can stand having KQ and hoping to be lucky, but we also have another King who has to fit, partner likelly has a shortness somewhere doesn't he?.

mmm just realicing, this hand fits with the AQ10xxxx AQx Qx x from the other thread, and even then some people though it was too good for 4!. Good luck to those who wanna try game.
