Ok, my partner and I are sitting EW. Here is the bidding... No one is vulnerable.

How do you interpret the double and what do you do with this hand as West?

Reds.

[dumb 2NT suggestion]

Edit: Duh! Pass. Forghot pass existed.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Pass. Partner's double is for takeout, but he should have overcalled 1Red if he had a five card suit.

Takeout and incredibly obvious pass, scrambling to a known 4-3 fit makes no sense when your spades are this good.

If I had to bet I'd bet on clubs being a 5-3 fit unless partner is 1444.

Anyways pass.

Pass.

X is a reopening, not surprisingly he is short in spade and does not
want to let them play on the 2 level.
As it is, he choose to pass to give you the option to convert, if he had
no interest what soever to play 2Sx, e.g. with a shapely 5413 hand,
and without a lot of outside defence,, he should have bid 2NT.

With kind regards
Marlowe

You don't have Q. If you look at the suit symbols in the original post, you'll see that partner's hand is AQ94 K65 QJ2 1076.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Hmmmm...the concensus seems to think PASS is the best bid here. Although PASS seems very enticing and the VULNERABILTY is not very condusive to further bidding, I would want to count my defence tricks. I think 3NT our way may be a little more superior contract if partner does not many CLUBS. It surely looks like the 2S bidder is very short in the red suits, which makes it a little tough to defend if partner has no spades.
Note, we got to take 8 tricks to yield a good score. +500 for 3 down.
Can we do this? I am not too sure. Think again!

I don't know how to put it differently: Dbl is takeout, just pass on it.
