How do you beat 3 hearts?

Can anyone figure out how my partner and I defeated 3♥ on this hand? No, declarer did not revoke.

declarer has to discard 2♠ on 2 minor suit winners ["OH MY! I thought I was playing NT"] :)

Obv after ruffing the 2nd round of clubs declarer took his/her 8 winners to escape for down 1.
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

No one has figured this out yet. Our opponents were decent NLM players - one of them became LM with the points from this sectional event. Still there was a serious error by the opponents that doomed the contract. I have no idea what the opponent was thinking at the time of the error.

Bingo. North apparntly forgot that they were playing western cue bids after I had opened and rebid hearts. Down 6 for second top in the NLM pairs. Top was 4♥X making by East. Everyone else was in a part score, making (some EW in hearts, some NS in clubs)

North-South actually won the event (NLM pairs), but this hand did not help.

As far as I knew during the bidding, 4♥ had no play. South had doubled for takeout, so I might well have had no tricks outside of hearts. So I took what I was sure to be at least 200 and gave up on the heart game.

So you went +300 for an awful board?

Anyway I think this hand totally justifies the ACBL increasing the requirements for life master.

Now that I see your later post, almost every E/W missed 4♥? Wtf??

+300 was a good board - only one pair was better.

I had played against this pair fairly often in this and other tournaments. Early in December, they tied for the 3rd most master points won at a NLM sectional. (I was second due to some stupid mistakes - one of which was taking too long at lunch and returning too late for the afternoon session.) This hand was atypical of their play. I would not be too hard on them just for this one hand.

It is quite easy to miss 4♥. You pretty much have to decide to bid it vulnerable with south showing a power house. Where are you going to get your tricks outside of the 8 hearts? If west does not have a spade honor, east can be made to lead away from his spades repeatedly. minor suit honors, if any, in west's hand are likely to be wasted.

Yeah, anyone can just space out once in a while.

The other week at a club game, first board of the afternoon, my partner opened 1♣ and righty put in 2NT, unusual. My not-yet-in-gear brain parsed that as 1♦ and 1♥, and I casually laid down the 1♠ card. The director laughed at me a little.

I admit I find it quite difficult to not get to 4♥ with 8 solid and KJx in another suit.
