IMP, all vul, you deal and see:

bidding goes:

Partner's original expectation was that I had about 6-9 points. That's what I have. PASS

3N for me...pass feels feeble. Sure, we could have better, but we could have worse too.

Pass sure seems feeble to me, too.

But I am not bidding 3NT with Ax of spades. I have no reason to believe we have 9 running tricks.

I bid what I have - 4.

3NT, wtp? It usually won't make but it might and I have to do something. I'm a passed hand and partner already doubled forcing me to the 3 level, if I pass here I can't depend on him forever even if he has some extras.

Besides maybe LHO will try to be a genius and lead his minor.

So why not double? I thought double would show almost exactly this type of hand (particularly Ax of spades and length in the minors).

X should show more imo, I don't think there is that much doubt about strain...if we have game it is almost certainly 3N, not 5m.

How does double show anything in spades? If you double you are almost always giving up on 3NT.

Since p maybe a tad lighter, I am not forcing to game.

 3NT wtp? I am a passed hand. Pard is unlikely to have a distributional hand with a stiff - that would give them 10. Moi is only a scant king short of an opening bid. should be our suit, and I have 5 - and can run to 4 if I have to. Most important 3NT is clearly a possible contract, and I must bid it now or never - no silly responsive double - 4 would be better than that, but it isn't game. Finally, there is the rule of Bob Hamman. If 3nt is a possible contract, and it is, BID IT.

Double - I don't think it says anything other than I have too much to pass.
