Although I think that your partner should appreciate the fact that you try not to double with a doubleton in the unbid major, I would double with this hand.

Hi,

I think 2C is ok.

A third alternative is to bid 2NT.

With kind regards

How about 3, stopper ask? B) Not quite the typical running long solid suit with some stuff outside, but its similar.

I double. Good things can happen and there are lots of hands that we can make game where partner is unable to cooperate over our 2 overcall.

I'll double, but it's not pretty.

the overcall is much the best action. Over partner's 2 spades it could get very difficult.

DBL runs the risk that partner will insist on a contract. 3 seems cleary wrong...just not enough tricks. So by defaut I choose 2 and hopefully will get a chance to show my next.

With RHO opening this hand is really likelly a partscore, 2 is a good one so try it.

3 might work.

So many ways 2C could work. Maybe a raise passed back to that hand, and then a delay unusual 2NT. Maybe staying out of trouble. Maybe Partner can act with an advance or a responsive double. So many ways a double can gum things up. Sorry if pard was not amused, but apparently things worked out on the hand for you.

With 19 HCP I double then bid. I expect my pard to bid hearts and that is ok by me. I then have a choice of bidding spades (asking for a stopper for 3NT) or bid one of my majors. Either way, I am showing my pard that I have a huge hand and I do not want to run the risk of having 2C passed out.

IMO yes it is an X to be followed by probably a bid

I would bid 2C. I don't see a good follow-up bid after doubling.

Even though 2 will often work out, the real cost comes in the future when you find partner stretching to respond to your 2 overcalls with not much, just in case you have a billion HCP, and you keep going down in things when it's your hand.
