east opens 2 and it goes

2-p-3-3
p-3NT-p-4

both sides confirmed that 3NT was made with a BIT. That would be about 4-5 seconds since the junior in the S seat usually bids very quickly. 3 from S would have asked for a spade stop, and there is no other agreement. 3 was just a signoff.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

"Just a signoff" does not imply that North has a club stopper - and if he doesn't, 3NT is doomed. But I'm not at all sure that pass by North is an LA - not with a solid seven card heart suit and a singleton club.

As to stop asking, when opponents have bid two suits naturally, it is common standard to have no stopper asking - in such case there is stopper showing (bid the suit you have stopped, or bid NT if you have them both stopped, or bid NT after partner shows one of them stopped and you have the other one stopped).

It is conceivable they had the agreement that 3S asks for spade stopper and I suppose you asked them.

I am pretty sure that if players were polled, Pass by the heart bidder would be confirmed as "not a logical alternative" under any agreements.

It is the unusual hand that makes 3N and doesn't make 4. I think there are many more hands that have issues with 3N so I think 4 is indicated and I don't think pass is a LA.
