2, though I have a bit more defence than I'd like.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Normal 1 for me.

Would never pass, and not really a fan of 2.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

My preempts are getting more disciplined lately. I just bid 1 unless p is a passed hand and opps have opened a nebulous minor suit (or an Acol 1).

I won't go so far as to say you can't be a winning bridge player if you pass this hand, but I think it would be a lot harder at least. And 2 is a style I'm not even close to wanting to be playing, exactly what is there about this hand that is either preemptive, or that is safe at a higher level than you have to bid? 1 and it's not remotely close for me.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

1. Closer for me than it is for Josh.

2 isn't on the radar.

Pass or 2.

I don't understand 1. If you overcall 1 here with this hand, you play 3 down for no reason too often OR you miss game too often. You gain no preemption, but you help to place cards and to spot the value of shortness for the opponents.

If you had some reason to slow partner down, then a lighter call might make sense. But, you don't. You love any call partner makes independently, so why dissuade him?

You have no reason to think that you are defending any contract other than hearts. Your interest in a spade lead is relatively minor in comparison to the chance that a heart contract is not the final contract anyway.

If you overcall this 1 and do not play intermediate jump overcalls, then I think you are losing out in places you do not realize. I used to be a 0+ overcaller, BTW.

1 is clear for me at these colours.

Pass is a call I can understand.
2 is a style I dislike a lot.
