I saw on the ACBL site that Dick Freeman died late Monday, June 29. As a bridge player who lived for 20 years in Atlanta, I find that very sad news indeed.

The Quiz Kid! And former youngest life master ever. That's too bad.

I wonder what happens now with Nickell?! Has Rosenberg committed to anything, post-Zia? I wonder if we're looking at Meckwell + Zia/Rosenberg + Hamman/Nickell.

I don't think Zia and Rosenberg will be playing anytime soon.

Nick can pick anyone he wants to. Wonder if Compton's name has been mentioned.

Bad news about Freeman.

That's very sad news, it seems like tons of people are just dropping like flies.

Before anyone takes offense to that, I think it was intended as a humorous throwback to the string "bye all the way to the semi's" and Mike777's reference to a team getting lucky in a major knockout.

Very sad news indeed :)

I wonder how his health was during the qualifying. I think it says enough that they grinded it through, all the way to the second final. Playing such a tourney is extremely tough, and playing one when less than 100% fit is... well... even tougher.

Actually, I thought I was just being ironic. Obviously they're skilled enough to win the Spingold. It was unfortunate that an illness had to be the reason they did it together.

Ralph Katz will be playing on the Nickell team in the Spingold and (presumably subject to confirmation) Bermuda Bowl (Stacy Jacobs).
