wackoj, it's not mandatory to reopen with Ax in their suit. It makes perfect sense to pass those (or at least some of those) hands if you don't like it. Suppose you had xx AKxx Kxxx Axx, single dummy would you really like to pass 2 out? Really?

I wouldn't call it unremarkable. It's remarkable that you happened to find a hand where East-West don't have a 4-4 fit, their likely trump suit is 4-2, their KJ are useless in offence, North-South's jacks and tens are all pulling their weight, and East-West's jacks and tens are almost useless.

Luckily South doesn't know all of that, so even if the bidding started as you suggest, the final result on this hand would probably be 3 undoubled down three.
