You're South at nil vul and East (RHO) is dealer. You hold:

Scoring: IMP

Opponent's play Weak NT and 4cM (4M-4m opens 1m). RHO opens 1.
You overcall 2 and LHO blasts 4. Partner doubles, your bid.
(Partner's double is not 100% penalty, it is takeout/values orientated..you get the drift)

Is partner the type who is fixated by spades and would try and get to 4 even with a decent diamond fit or would partner frequently raise to 5 here even with four good spades and values?

I am balanced with two aces, so to me it's an easy pass.

To add something new:

I am balanced with two aces, so to me it's an esy pass.

Hmm, nothing new in this world anymore I guess.

Of course.

This is a normal although somewhat minimum overcall. Thank God we have two aces.

This is an awful hand... but we have nowhere to go, and we may be able to beat them... we sure as heck aren't making anything.

With a balanced minimum this is an easy pass. Happy to hold two defensive tricks - we might even beat it.
Kind regards,

Clear pass of course. I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason for this post is that partner had real diamond support along with some spades and was trying to cater to landing in 4. If so he should probably have raised diamonds instead of doubling.

Why is everyone so pessimistic about beating this? I'm hoping for a good number. Really the only downside of passing is like if partner has six clubs and we belong there, which is just unlucky.

Nuno probably tried to make an insufficient 3NT bid first, but I agree with him.

Easy pass and I expect my 2 aces to contribute nicely to beating it.

How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

Unanimous.
Mind you, I don't think partner should have doubled on:

K873
4
KJ3
KQ1093

West should bid 5D.

I'm not pessimistic - I was kind of sarcastic... If partner has a more or less normal double, we'll get a reasonable score defending.
Kind regards,
Harald
