My wife a bridge player (learner) (pirate44) Raised an interesting question,me
having been taught card games from the age of 7 years,but we are what one would call middle to Senior age group--when computers were not around. me. (pirate 22)

Talking to the younger generation 17-24 age group.do you play bridge??? no,
but they all play Computer games, so we expounded about Bridge,,,this that and the other-to my surprise,they said "That is exactly what we derive, from ply computer games" they have tourneys.local/state/national,to me, they are time wasting, as is, for instance Suduko. But say crossword puzzles, improves one Vocabulary, bridge improves one's memory,but one assume's, concentration is required in both games,I should put this article in the Computer Forum to see what reaction:))
are there any bridge buffs, that are hooked on computer games ,answers please

I like computer games but I'm 30. Truth is that lately I haven't been playing video games that much 'cause I'm playing more bridge. Video games might just be a way of introducing bridge to young people, imagine playing half-life 2 and needing to play a bridge hand to pass a level. Or playing bridge in World of Warcraft, that'll be a great way of merchadising the game...

Oh! and the difference is in time. You play a video game and usually you get instant reward (you killed this or that, you achieved this or that) in bridge it takes a long time before you can really say that you play the game and then it'll take a lot more to win tourneys etc.

computer games, depending on which ones we're talking about, can greatly improve your reflexes, hand-eye coordination. They can improve your memory and force you to think quicker.

But with bridge to get a quick fix--try watching a good game ply whatever sys you have adopted,like everything else one has to learn to walk before you can run:) later u can watch the Experts, but they have many specialised Conventions-Visit a live bridge club near you, and they will arrange a partner to play Live bridge
and it will not be long before you win, that local event,depends on one's partner (Wavelentgh)
then you can play County/state tourneys and flex ones muscles there,you will get more Buzz. REF watching top players --and i recommend Helgamo from Norway on vugraph BBO also Tor Helness also from Norway-the Italian pair Duboin
but it takes patience

My 10 year old plays a variety of video games. He recently told me that the 2 games he wants to "learn" the most about are chess and bridge.

On the flipside, I've played video games for almost as long as I've played bridge. I'm even sometimes guilty of playing both at once!

I suppose both offer a lot of the same things - socialization, competition, etc. Having both just makes for more variety.
