You are East. This is near the end of a 12 board IMP match scored at Victory Points (part of a several month long round-robin). You believe that you are behind in the match, if that is relevant. Your call?

So many experts, not enough X cards.

Looking forward to see, if it was really that unfortunate.
Do not underestimate the power of the dark side. Or the ninth trumph.

2♥ - (P) - P - (3♦)
P - (P) - X - All Pass
I held the hand with the diamonds. My LHO opened a little light, based on distribution. I won the opening spade lead, cashed three hearts and ran the ♦10. The rest was easy (actually the whole hand was easy).

It would have been even easier if your RHO had supported the 1st round.

What would your double mean then?

I was playing with a person I had known for ages but had never played with as a partner (we were teammates on a team which won the ACBL District 4 Grand National Teams some 10 years ago). So, these 12 boards were the first we ever played together.
When the hand was played and the dummy hit, I complemented my partner as a very fine dummy-putter.

Actually at the time of posting I thought the hand had made a preference to spades.
Pass on 2♥???
Anyway, in the actual sequence, my double would show that I want to compete, meaning I have four hearts, but I will allow partner to pass with a very defensive hand, with, at least some, diamonds stacked.
Something like:
♠ xx
♥ QJxx
♦ xx
♣ KQ10xx
This is a general meaning of my doubles, when I am "Under the gun".
Do not underestimate the power of the dark side. Or the ninth trumph.

Just kidding, that isn't worth an insult.

You may have misinterpreted the auction.
The hand given did take a preference for spades. See the original post.

I am not sure if you are being serious or faceious.
What would you do in direct seat over the preference to 2♠?
Alternatively, would you have done something other than 2♦ over 1NT on the previous round?

Seems so.
Anyway, the meaning of the double would basicly be the same, something like:
♠ Kxx
♥ Qxx
♦ xx
♣ KJ10xx

1♠ - (P) - 1NT - (2♦)
2♥ - (P) - 2♠ - (3♦)
P - (P) - ?
