4. This shows (well, if it works out, lol) why a 2nd seat preempt is less effective than a 1st seat preempt - my failure to open means that my 4 bid must be based on something like this (or a +m two-suiter if that is not in our preempt structure).

Paaaaaasss. I would need to be at least 5-5, if not 6-5 to act with these values at these colors. WvR and 4. looks to be more attractive.

Pass! Partner could still have 5 and want to X! Only when partner has something like AKx xxxx Kxxx xx might this work. I'm probably gonna get pumped in hearts, and I have no minor suit spots. Finally, it's IMPs... -1100 is not a pretty score, granted this be a double game swing, but I see no reason to guess with this miserable hand.

I strongly prefer double to 4S, I don't consider pass an option.

Yes... I could understand X, but certainly not 4...

I'd double. It's unlikely that defending 4 undoubled is the best we can do. Of course, there's no guarantee that double will lead to the best action for our side either, but it at least improves our chances.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Yes, Double, as I can find myself in trouble if I find partner with 3 trumps only.
Pass is no option for me either even at this colours.
It all makes perfect sense, expressed in dollars and cents.

I'd bid 4 if I had 6 card minor (maybe 5 card as well). But with 3 suiter if will have to be pass or double. This needs some table feeling, with no read I will pass because our quaky honnors won't do very good defending.

Double, but not ideal with the soft values.

Unhappy double. Unhappy because if partner passes I am lacking in tricks.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I double as well, but only because one of my New Year's Resolutions was to find new ways of going for numbers.. my guess is that double gives us a choice between -1100 and -1280. However, partners keep telling me that the glass is half full.. maybe, this time, it is.

The good news is that it may be a push.

The trend in bridge over the past 30 years is towards ever-increasing aggression. The result, even in or particularly in high-level bridge is minus scores that would have been avoided decades ago, that are now pushes. Of course, there is a positive flip side as well :)

Full hand:

Scoring: IMP

This is also the hand from the thread: "What do you bid? And how strongly do you feel it's right?"

The board created many different results, and many swings.

I found it kind of funny, that at one table N-S would bid 2-4 without interference, while at another table, E-W would bid 2-4 without interference.

What happened at my table is a closely guarded secret.

Double. Shows this shape (approximately).

I still think 4 shows a 2 suiter, but others disagree.
