Presumptuous to make it a poll.
Various factors might be

have something much better
strength & range of notrump
forgetful partners
frequency of 5cM in your NT
too much info to opponents
etc

Off the top of my head

* ... if I wanted to be in a 5-3 major suit fit that badly, I would have opened 1M.
* 1NT-2; 2NT is a frequent problem auction.

Of course if you allow little leeway for 1NT (no upgrades, infrequent 1M on 5M-332), then these factors should be weighted less.

I play Puppet Stayman over 1NT with game forcing hands; the auction is 1NT-3, with opener's rebids as in a 2NT-3 Puppet auction (so there's no issue with 1NT-2; 2NT). With a hand of less than GF strength, responder can't use it and we're in the same boat as everyone else. On the GF hands, though, I'm very glad to have it available. The "invitational to 3NT" 3 response is extremely rare (I don't remember the last 1NT-3 auction I had), and I prefer opening 1NT with most 5332 hands in the suitable range.

I play Keri 1NT. That's why I don't play Puppet.

Well there are many reasons why I don't play 2C as puppet stayman. For example, I like to play drop-dead-stayman, where 1NT-2C-2D-2H is a weak hand with both majors. I also think regular stayman leads to quicker auctions, with fewer bids that can be doubled for the lead.

With my regular partner I do play 3C as puppet Stayman.

...because I play garbage stayman
...because playing 3N with a 5-3 major suit fit isn't always a bad thing
...because of the problem of responder having an invitational hand when the auction goes 2-2N
...because I do use the 1N-3 and 1N-3 responses
...because I play that the 1N bidder can jump to 3 of a major with a 5 card suit and a max 1N opener opposite a stayman response, lessening the need.
...because puppet gives too much information to the defense.

Because I wasn't taught that.
Because 1NT is rarely opened on a 5-card Major.
Because it's not 'normal'.
Because I can always bid 3 of a Major after stayman to show 5 cards.
Because when I open 1NT on a 5-card-Major the hand is better suited for NT play.

Mainly because we open 1NT with 5 card major less than 10% of the time.

But also because we use 1NT-2-2-2 and 1NT-2-2-2 for something quite complicated.

... I play the obviously superior 3 as Muppet or Batchelder Puppet. :rolleyes:

Why is it worse than after a strong notrump?

Presumably because losing garbage stayman is more significant.

Pros:
-can play 2
-finds quickly 5-3 fit
-can stop in 2 with invitational hands

Cons:
-offers more informations to opponent than regular NT;
-bad continuations with 5m+4M;
-loses the ability to describe other types of weak/inv hands like 1nt-2c-2d-2h, 1nt-2c-2d-2s.
