You hold the following hand:
Scoring: MP

The auction starts:
2* - Dbl* - ?

2 = weak with at least 4-4 in the Majors, not 3-suited (5431 allowed), not 2 Aces
Dbl = penalty with a balanced hand

What do you do?

Redouble asking partner to pick a major. If he picks spades I pull to 3C, if he picks hearts I pass.

I don't understand pass, I'm certainly not happy about it.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I'll just bid 3 now, I don't expect any ruffs in dummy if I play in hearts, or one at the most.

You really want to play redoubled if partner prefers hearts han??
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Ages back, I did a bunch of sims trying to figure out what to do after the opps trotted out a penalty double.

As I recall, bidding 3 with this sort of shape works for the best.

The good club spots makes life even more attractive (its easier to smack the opponents when you have top honors)

Please note: When I am playing assumed fit methods, I don't open 2X with a 5440 shape. This increases the chance that opener has at least one club...

Oh wait, I misread the opening bid, I thought it was 2D. Now I can't find out if partner has 5 hearts so I'll just bid 3C.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I'm not really happy about anything on this hand. I expect that we're doubled and going for sticks and wheels no matter what I do.

So a very unhappy 3C it is.

Did I know playing 'assumed fit' 2H that these misfits would occur? Take my beating in 2H. Pass. Just maybe this is our cheapest spot eg. S-Axxxx H-Qxxxxx D- C-xx

Lol, I don't think you have been playing assumed fit preempts much. Partner is extremely unlikely to have a 6-5. From what I've encountered, most of the time time assumed fit preempts are 4-4 or 5-4. 3 rates to be the best fit the majority of the time.

Pass WTP, RED vs RED is there any1 dumb enough to do this with a 4-4 ?
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

3. Assumed fit pre-empts are usually 5-4 or 4-4 and there is a very high probability that is our best fit. Make LHO decide what to do.

Ben, even if partner is 5-4, if partner's 5 card suit is spades, you are just as screwed! Also, if partner is 5-4, I beleive this means he has 4 minor suit cards?? These minor suit cards have to be somewhere.

Since opener's bid was stated as "at least 4/4 in the majors, does this mean 6/5 holdings are not allowed? If they are, it seems to me that it would be best to have partner act next. This gives your LHO a chance to bail you out if your in a misfit and, if LHO doesn't bid, partner can SOS with the 4/4 or bid 2 Spades if they are longer. You can still bid 3 Clubs later.

Why would opener SOS if partner gives clear preference to playing 2?
