My comments back then must have stung you for you to feel the need to take such a shot at me, especially at this time of year. My own preference is to hope for tolerance of everything and everyone but the intolerant, so I wish you...as well as everyone else who plays any role in BBF, a happy holiday season (for those for whom this is a holiday season).

Thanks mikeh, Fully reciprocate your sentiments but still find your logic puzzling.

Let's keep this thread on topic, for discussion of the deceased, not meta-discussions. If you really feel the need to discuss tolerance in general, start a new thread.

Allan Cokin.

This notice appears on the ACBL website:

Allan Cokin, a top player who came back from expulsion by the ACBL to make a positive contribution to bridge, died of cancer on Jan. 1 in West Palm Beach FL. He was 71.

Cokin and Steve Sion were accused of and found guilty of using pre-arranged signals during bridge competition and were expelled in July 1979. They applied for and were granted reinstatement five years later after agreeing to never play together again.

By most estimates, Cokin made up for his mistakes by working as a coach and mentor, often without monetary compensation. Sion was expelled in 1997 for another violation and has been out of bridge since.

Former ACBL President Barbara Nudelman said Cokin more than made amends for the ethical violations. "He was a fabulous teacher," Nudelman said, "and a fabulous coach. There are thousands of women in Palm Beach County who he taught to play bridge. He was a model citizen, very helpful and supportive of bridge."

Pete Seegar. http://en.wikipedia....iki/Pete_Seeger I remember seeing him perform years and years ago and how he came across as having a wonderful gentle sense of humor and strong sense of humanity as well as putting on a great concert.

As for so many in this thread, when comes such another.

Pete Seeger came to Cornell to do a concert back in the early 70s. Somebody printed up a bunch of counterfeit tickets, which resulted in a number of people not being able to get into the auditorium even though they had legitimate tickets. Not to mention a whole bunch of people showed up with no tickets and couldn't (big surprise) get in. When Pete heard about this, he finished the indoor concert, then went outside and did another - for free. And yeah, it was a great concert. B-)

Sid Caesar. There was a string of years where I never missed Your Show of Shows.

From http://www.people.co...0660793,00.html

Quote

To say Caesar caused a sensation on TV is to understate the case. For eight years, beginning in 1950, he delighted America each week with a crazy salad of skits, pantomime and gentle satire. Your Show of Shows, which Caesar helped script, produced such stellar comedy writers as Larry Gelbart, Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, Woody Allen and Neil Simon and also made a star out of his madcap sidekick, the incomparable Imogene Coca.

And Rooney was still professionally active up to the end. He was filming a role in a new "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" movie, and IMdb says that he was cast in two other films that are in pre-production.

I knew of Ron for many years before I got to know him at all well. He and Sandra were living in my now-wife's basement when I started seeing Debbie. They were between homes at the time, for reasons that I no longer recall. They were a delightful couple. I later got to play a few times with Ron, and he was one of those players who bring out the best in his partners, as well as being a true expert himself. I don't think he ever went on the trail, but in the late 1960s and into the 1970s the Borg Machine dominated bridge in Vancouver. He was a truly good human being.
