would it be possible to add the name of country to the heading if an event being played in a specific country, ie at moment NT Gold Swiss Pairs - round 4/12 does not hint at country involved (unless you live there)

Maybe your post should be moved to Vugraph Issues or Suggestions for the Software. Ben (inquiry) may do that.

However, it does not take a software change to make your wish come true.

- 1. It's up to the operator to mark the banners properly.
- 2. Even if s/he doesn't, you can always go to your bookmarked schedule page and see city and country.

But I agree, it will be easier for everybody if the operator had inserted Australia. Not sure there is room for Northern Territory (NT), but country should be OK imo.

A couple of issues are relevant here.

First, the banner gets created when the hands are loaded into the computer, at a time when there is usually time pressure on the person getting things set up. Particularly in KO matches after the first segment, where the score also has to be entered, there is a lot for the person setting things up to do. And if you make any mistake (Piars instead of Pairs last night for instance), you have to start all over again - locate the hands, type in the name of the event, type in the segment, type in the team names, type in the score.

Second, and this is probably more important, there used to be a limit to the number of characters allowed in the event name. There isn't any more, but some of us take a while to adjust to changes.

Third, and most important (although it didn't apply to the Australia broadcast), if there is more than one table from the same event, in order to get a different LIN file for each table, there has to be a difference in the first 20 characters of the event name. Of course, a little thought would let someone put "Match 3 - Australia Teams Championship" instead of "Australia Teams Championship - Match 2" but that gets back to the first issue - the person doing this is under time pressure and can't fix anything after entering it.
Jan Martel, who should probably state that she is not speaking on behalf of the USBF, the ACBL, the WBF Systems Committee, or any member of any Systems Committee or Laws Commission.
