I was defending this hand at the other table, so I know all four hands... that makes it harder to work out what the right line is, though I know what the successful lines are.

Imps 48-board KO, last set of 8 boards, you were 22 up before the start of this 8-board set and it's the fourth board, so far you have had two normal-looking boards and one +100 when you were cold for a NV game, but it looked exceptionally hard to bid.

Scoring: IMP

4 by South

Auction starts with you

1NT (15-17) P 2 (xfer) 3
3* P 4** P
4 all pass

3 = undiscussed, you think it ought to show diamonds and hearts
4 = undiscussed, either raising diamonds or a re-transfer if partner has hearts

LHO leads the Ace of clubs (RHO plays a discouraging club)
LHO continues with the 10 of clubs.

This is a rather nice start.
Plan the play.

edit: fixed a pip error

My line will be based on the asusmption of 2-3, 2-3 and K on rho.
Pitch a from dummy and win with K, then A and small to J, no matter rho wins or not, i have entry to set up s and cash them.

I quite like cnszsun's line. An alternative ...
Discard on K
Run J (unless LHO covers) intending to finesse again if RHO follows with T or 9.
Hope for favourable position in or .

In the end I'll throw the diamond and finesse the Queen of hearts. If it loses I'll win the spade return, and cash the Ace of hearts.

Now I'll play on diamonds taking the ruffing finesse.

The main payoff for this idea is when RHO has 10x or 9x, rather than the singleton.

Win K pitching a . CASH a .
J, K, A, x. If RHO has 's as stipulated and not more than three 's originally I think we are home. For example --
from dummy. If RHO discards, win and continue with the 9, duck, discard. If RHO ruffs with the 9 then we can score the dummy's five trumps, one ruff in hand, and four top tricks.

Other example --
LHO covers the 3rd (perhaps perforce from original Qxx), ruff low, overruff 9. Win return, play winning , ruff, overruff, pull trump, claim 10 tricks.

My effort doesn't even pick up LHO' s KT64 or K964 :D so ceeb's line seems better :)

The second club (being the TEN, btw) added to this overrides EAST signal, suggest seven clubs with EAST, and long hearts with WEST. The second club suggest to me that WEST is looking at four trumps and is hoping to force a trump promotion.

It also suggest that EAST has 7's and some spade honors (with KQJ, WEST would probably have started differently). So I am going to rely on the diamond finesse being on, and throw spade from dummy on this. Then I am going to play heart to the ACE and low heart back towards my hand. This works if EAST has K, T, or 9 singleton of hearts, and even Kx doubleton.

Hand might disappear from the forum - what was it?
