Pass, leave it to partner who knows much more about your hand than you about his.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Boy, tough to argue with Han on this one. The opps were certainly nice to let you describe your hand completely!

Well, I'm not going to make unilateral decisions on that raggy club suit either. Pass.

I would X, I have too much defense to let it go all pass.

I agree with this. It's not a forcing pass.

While I certainly agree that it's not a forcing pass, I don't think I have more defense than partner has a right to expect for a first hand opener. Partner would have to have a pretty awful hand to pass 5, IMO. And if it's that awful, we lost 50 points by not Xing. Woo.

My problem is that I really don't need much to make 5, and the way I play the X is a unilateral decision...a "For God's sake, don't bid 5" bid. If the X were a "do something smart, P" X, then I'd agree with it. Maybe you guys play it that way.

Ty all for your answers.

The opponents said that is a good result for them because we could make 5s which was true however I do not see how we could get there.

Huh, isn't it an easy 800?

On any lead you should have had 1 spade, 3 hearts and 2 clubs for +800 against 5Dx.

Edit: Ha! Two people beat me to it all in the same minute
