4; can't really imagine taking any other call. 3 is really, really conservative.

We need very little for game -- it's basically cold opposite something like xxxx Qxxx xxx Qx and not bad opposite Kxxx Qxx xxx xxx -- and have no way to invite, so I would bid 4.

A maximal double, if you have this agreement, would be the way to invite game, but I think that a maximal double should usually be more of a power try -- a hand on which you wouldn't mind partner passing the double. Not everyone will agree perhaps.

You may bid 4D, which should show shortage,
and may or may not help your partner to make
a sensible decision over 5D.
The main problem is of course, that West may
double 4D, which may help East-West finding a
cheap sacifice or the right lead.
