Scoring: IMP

p - (1S) - p - (2S)
p - (p) - ??

Do you balance? Please hide your answer if you are better than I am.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Nope

In theory, I could bid 2NT. In practice, I won't.

Partner was a passed hand when the 2 came around. If he has reasonable shape, he could have acted. He didn't.

I balance too. only problem is 2-5-3-3 and even if that's the case, my hand is not that bad.

I wouldn't. Yes we don't have anything wasted in spades, but our shape is sterile and partner didn't pre-bal. It could certainly work out well.

Am I better than Han? Well I haven't beaten the Nickell team in the Spingold. But then... neither has he. :D

Nice to see so much disagreement here, I actually thought it was a clear balance and bid 2NT at the table. On this particular hand it could have worked well because they competed to 3S which might have gone down. But they made, don't ask. :D

Agree with emphatic yesses. We probably have a fit, and when we have this much it's quite unlikely they have missed game. We also have nothing in spades which not only means we make more, but that they are more likely to just bid 3 anyway.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

you should listen to the better players.... :)

(yes I think I was wrong on this one, I just autopassed because of the 3 small spades - I need to learn to think out of the box)

I'll bid 2NT. With tenaces over the opener, I don't think this will push them into a making game. It might push them into a non-making game :)

In this hand I had bid as good (or bad) as you, no need to hide the answer.

2NT means minors, or pick a suit?
Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.
