Thank you all for the replies.
This is what the hand actually looked like. Small ♦ was the opening lead from Jxxx, and the Q♥ was onside for +620 (and a nice chunk of IMPs our way when the diamond partscore did not produce 620 at the other table). But I didn't know if I was being results oriented, so thanks again.

The auction really should get to 4♥ after P-1♦-1♥-3♦-3♥-4♥ also. But it does play a bit better from the strong hand.

1NT or 1♦ seem pretty much the same to me. Probably 1NT will shut out opps more easily. The only flaw I see is pard tranferring to spades and leave us in the 5-2 fit when a 6-3 one was available

There should be no way to miss game with these particular hands anyway. But I agree that this is a clear cut 1 NT bid if you play 1 NT as 15-17. All the honours in the short suits say: Please declare NT from YOUR hand.
