1-P-1NT-X
2-P-2S-3
P-P-3

What do you expect for 3? Does it make any difference if you are playing four-card majors?

Clearly this shows the hand from that other thread:

xxx
Kxxxx
xx
QTx

I was wondering what to bid with this hand after 1NT...2. :P

How about:

Kx AQx x xxxxxxx

?
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

That's a good example.

I was about to write that it is impossible but Han's example makes sense.

I like 3-4, would never bid this way with 2-3

Agree. Can't see why we should be at the 3-level on two 7-card fits.
Kind regards,
Harald

This thread has made me feel better B)

My instinct at the table was that partner must be 3=4, it didn't seem terribly likely but I hadn't come up with anything more sensible. He was actually trying to make a game-try for 4 - Kxx AJT xxxx xxx. Perhaps that meaning is better iff you are playing 4cM.

Isn't Kx AQx x xxxxxxx a competitive double? "Partner, what to do?"
So freeing 3H for "It's our hand, but where?"

I can't see Xing 3D in that auction as "competitive." That looks like a "they're down" double.

I would never bid 1NT with such a hand, but then, I don't play 4-card majors.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

One round earlier he tried to sign off in 2S. Since then, he has learned (a) that his LHO has a good hand, and (b) that his partner didn't want to compete over 3D. Playing 3H as a game try doesn't seem very sensible, regardless of your system.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
