hearts or random balanced 9-11 (or insert another range) count.

anyone tried it? how would you defend against it? etc.

probably best is NV...

Never seen this, however, some of the top Italian pairs used to play 2♠ as either natural or balanced 9-11.

This 2♥ is for people who think a 9-11 NT isn't preemptive enough :). Interesting anyway, can't say if it's a good idea. What are the basic continuations if you play this convention?

I really hate it because you cannot further the preempt like ever. My favorite thing about weak 2s is the ability to further the preempt. It would be hard to defend against though.

I think continuations are no big deal Rob cause you're pretty much screwed when you have to explore game anyway, lol. Anything reasonable should "work" in the limits that the lack of definition and eaten bidding space have set.

I think you could treat it as a weak 2♥ bid with the exception that you are slightly more prone to overcall 2NT, maybe making the range of that good 14 to bad 18 or something. The only time you are really screwed is when he has the balanced hand and you have evenly divided strength with a heart fit, or when you are the overcaller on a good hand with hearts, but I don't see much way around it. Maybe double then 3♥ should be natural. Tough convention to deal with.
