on the first one
3 was ridiculous

3 was also silly, especially since 2 should have been available over 1 to show that hand

on the second one, 4 seems like it would be a normal opening , unfortunately N was not in a position to open; instead, they chose a totally non-forcing 3H call opposite an opening hand. quite poor.

1)

E has a natural 2H bid over 1H. Even failing to do this, 3H is a bad bid. The only reason it works here is that his partner has both missing trumps, N does not actually have a 3D bid, and S has a crappy defensive hand.

North has nothing even approximately resembling a 3D bid. He is off an ace.

South has no reason to double 3H for penalty. He has a bad hand and has no business bidding anything at all.

2)

Opening the E hand is okay. I think it is a style thing, but if you aggressively open, this definitely falls into that category.

N has an obvious 4H bid.
