Scoring: IMP
West    North   East    South
        3      3      4
6      Pass    6      Pass
7      Pass    7      Pass
Pass    Dbl     7      Pass
Pass    Pass

Playing at imps, here North made a very costly mistake. Can you spot it?

What lesson can we learn from this hand?

This is IMPS? The opponents were in 7 Diamonds, which I know is going down. But I doubled so they could run to a lucky 7 spades!!!! NOT A SMART MOVE!!!
Please do not complain about my opinion. I don't have the time to convince you I'm right.

If you double 7, you should double 7 as well imo (to mislead declarer). But there's no reason why you should double 7 in imps... In MP's it might be better.

Fun hand to play I guess and DBL tells East how to play it? and also keeping quiet takes down contract as previously said...

Opener has shown 7 with 3 opener and weak hand and then dbld so we can place QJT in North? Given good honours in hearts for opening not likely to have anything else so finesse S for J to guard against 4-0 break

I won't have done it at the table as I can't think that quickly but is it reasonable logic?

the DOUBLE of 7 was THE worst bid - NEVER X a freely bid GS ----EVEN if u KNOW u have a guaranteed TRUMP trick) - because you MIGHT force them into the ONLY GS thay can make - BUT IF they have overbid - you have a GOOD score regardless if u X or not :D

not sure if this qualifies as an absolute or not, but one lesson is that the preemptor has said all he plans to say and doesn't bid again
