I pass. Not enough high cards for 1s, and just too good for hearts for any other number.

(Obviously?) if I had something that showed the majors, I would use it.

Yeah, normal methods it looks like a pass. 3rd seat I'd bid something, but 2nd just seems like it's asking to find the wrong strain.

Normal pass, let's see what's next.

I would pass, but I would hate it very bad. 2nd seat is not the place to be imaginative.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I would pass too, but I don't think it would turn out as unanimous as the responses so far make it seem.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I am a passer, I like to preempt if my hearts are a minor, but opening 2S with 5 hearts just rates to lose hearts too much for my liking.

Luckily I can bid 2 for both majors.

Without this tool, I would pass, even if I could open this hand due to the rule of 18.
Kind Regards

There will be a part two later. What's your call?

An easy pass unless We have a systemic bid to show this hand.

My first inclination was pass but then I recognized the hand and remembered that I opened 1. (Not quite, I think my hand has the jack of spades also, maybe that made the difference).

Pass, even if it hurts.
But I have decided for my own years ago,
that I pass with this kind of hand.

My partner would open 2S, intending to
bid hearts the next round.

Interesting. I thought I knew the hand from yesterday's 4th segment of the English Open Trials. But that hand was ...

AK8653
109875
8
3

... so it can't be. Very similar though.

With the hand Han posted here I will pass. I will likely also pass the hand Jason Hackett and Gunnar Hallberg had on vugraph. Jason did, Hallberg opened 2.

...and the 2S opening was not a success
(or at least, his subsequent actions led to it not being a success!)

I have to admit that I would be inclined to open 2 as well, only because we are vulnerable.

I'm not convinced that passing makes heart more likely to enter the fray all that much. I could see a lot of auctions were my next problem is whether to focus first the spades or to make a Michaels bid. I'd be inclined to end up with a 2 call, later, that has the same problem.

That said, let's see if I can out-do this chap as to the follow-up question. LOL
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

OK, a nearly unanimous vote for passing. I opened 2S. If you cannot live with 2S then you can just abstain from the next question.

It goes

(p) - 2S - (3C) - 4S
(5C) - ??

Your call?
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I cannot live with 2. That on top of the greatest school in the history of mankind losing to some nonames from that state down south is just too much for me in a weekend.

Goodbye cruel world!!!!
