1.

3 Normal
4 Stuck for a bid, or could be good 4M. Don't know agreement
5 Bizarre. Off their rocker. Or knows opponents don't know how to deal with it.
5 Must think 4 is both majors. Reasonable in my view.
7 Outer space.

2.

1 Normal
Dbl Normal
3NT Semi-gamble (not my cup of tea)
Dbl Aggressive
Not pulling the double Bananas

Not all silver life masters are good players. These hands would seem to prove the point.

Hand 1: Preempts cause problems.

You shouldn't expect a perfect auction after high level preempts. On this hand, i think that the auction is reasonable.

NS has suggested a Diamond fit. E/W should ahve a fit somewhere and its (probably) not in Hearts or in Clubs. 7 (obviously) doesn't amke, but only because there is a 4-0 trump break with the Jack offside.

I don't think there is much hope of an accurate controlled auction that can place the Jack of Spades after a 3 start.

Hand 2:

The 3N bid looks fine white / red
Not pulling the double seems odd.

I really dislike East's double of 3N

Not as odd as not making 3N was.

He must have known declarer would misplay and go down.
Is the word "pass" not in your vocabulary?
So many experts, not enough X cards.

Huh? Looking at the EW cards alone it looks like you need two ruffs in dummy, scoring two tricks to discard the last two red losers and trumps behaving. Obviously you're down with a trump lead on any layout. And four down on a trump lead on the actual layout.

On the bidding the odds for making this contract on a non-trump lead must be less than 1%. West should know this looking down at Axxx.
Kind regards,

Hand 1: W has what looks like a 9 trick hand but, without help, turns out to be only an 8 trick hand with the spades not coming in. The way to show that, imo, is to bid 4S over 3D. Here of course W hardly expects to hear 5D on his left but in many hands the auction (3D)-4D-(5D) is common and I think (3D)-4S-(5D) is a much better start. If there is going to be action, the sooner you get your suits in the better.

The 5D bid is what can be called inventive.

After that, the wheels and everything else came off, but I would lay the blame with the 4D bid.

Hand 2: I realize that the hand can be beat (just barely) but on the likely lead of a spade it can be made and it seems the X has drawn a roadmap for the declarer. Did the play really go Jack of diamonds to the king and ace, small diamond back to the 9, cashing four diamonds and an ace? If declarer got a spade lead and failed to make it, he needs to learn about counting to 9 before embarking on the play. Hell, last time I looked, I think I am a Silver Life Master. Or something like that. Doesn't mean much.

An exciting bid though.
