I voted pass.I must be wrong or a walrus or a chicken.Yet cant understand how passing would lose.Easy to understand a P having 17 points 6 controls and and dbltn trump K against my 6card trump suit and opening hand blasting to slam.
I wouldn't have left the table though.

Justin opened it, that says it all.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I open 1D. It is easier to describe this hand by bidding than by passing.

I would pass only in a forcing pass system or in 4. seat.

The bidding and behaviour from the expert was like we expect it from an "expert".
Kind Regards

A Pass would show 13+ then B)
In my system open 1 with this hand (4+)

In a standard system: 1

Clear 1 opening imo. Partner is a noob to bid like this...

In our system we open 1D (shows 4=Hearts) - and rebid 2D (shows 5+ diamonds) after each non-forcing response .

I'm fairly conservative with opening bids, and this is a clear opener. All those nice pips as well!
