I saw "The expendables" a couple of weeks ago and I liked it, pretty much what I Expected.

Uh. I didn't like the expendables. Huge cast wasted with too much Stallone time and a plot/story that was particularly bad - even for this genre.

On the other hand, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was tons of fun.

For anyone interested in pop art, street art, or brilliant documentaries in general, I saw "Exit Through the Gift Shop" yesterday and highly recommend it. It's directed by graffiti legend Banksy, and I won't tell you what it's about, because I think the twists, turns, and surprises add a lot to the meta-commentary that Banksy is serving up.

If you enjoy modern art, do yourself a favor and see this documentary without reading any spoilers. It's not on DVD yet, afaik, and it didn't make it to many mainstream US theaters. It was released in the UK in March, so maybe some of our friends overseas can comment on its popularity there.

The Town. I'd been looking forward to this one from the trailer, and it didn't disappoint. Good crime drama...atmospheric and well acted, every character believable. Sort of "The Departed" meets "Point Break."

The Town was reasonably good. Not really top class for the genre (I will not expect any nominations), but I liked Ben Affleck in it and have a soft spot for Boston after being there 4 years for school, so I enjoyed the movie.

I also enjoyed "The Kids are All Right" which I saw recently and is still in a couple of theaters near me now.

I'm pretty "eh" about Affleck as an actor; he's kind of hit/miss IMO ("The Town" being a hit). As a director, I've liked him a lot twice (The Town, and Gone Baby Gone, his only efforts so far).

Adam and I just saw "Waiting for Superman". It was interesting, but had some suspicious statistics, and also stated that only 20% of charter schools are successful, yet seemed to be pushing charter schools as the way forward in education. And demonized teacher's unions, perhaps somewhat deservedly, but not completely deservedly.

"Let Me In"

Undubbed/Unsubtitled adaptation of the critically acclaimed "Let The Right One In." VERY cool vampire flick/child outsider movie. Great performances from the kids in the main roles, and a couple of great actors - Elias Koteas and Best Actor nominee Richard Jenkins - in supporting roles.

Being a vampire movie, of course, it is not recommended for those squeamish about the sight of blood.

I saw "catfish" and "the social network" this weekend. "catfish" was about what you'd expect, and was mediocre. I really liked the social network.

I saw Cell 211, a Spanish movie. That was FANTASTIC! Spanish make great cinema. I wonder, however, whether there's a political message in the movie, and what it is, in case there is.

Saw Everyone Else. I can't remember ever seeing a movie about a young couple this age that looks so tenderly and directly at what attracts them and what threatens them.

I like this film and will check out other films by Maren Ade. But I do not recommend this film for other forum posters. In German with subtitles.

The Next Three Days: outrageous premise but at least trying to be close to realistic, very good acting, not too predictable, and well-paced, sharp action sequences. I really enjoyed it.

I saw The Next Three Days last Monday, and liked it. It did start off kinda slow.

Saw the Black Swan today. A good flick that movie lovers will like.


I really liked the Town, a top ten movie of the year.


For me the French movie the Prophet is the best movie of the year.

I saw RED, it was quite fun but by the end of it I got a little bit annoyed by all the action.

Seeing TRON 3D a few hours from now!!

TRON was awesome, the effects were much better than I expected (and I expected much), and the plot just a little bit thinner than I expected (and I expected little).

I saw "The King's Speech" last week. I think that it definitely lived up to the hype for me. It was really interesting, and I really felt for the main characters. The acting was great.
