which would satisfy the rule of 22 as well, but nothing is perfect. Since I have a rebid on all possible partner's bids, and a club lead is what i'd like from partner when defending, looks ok to open it.

I don't feel too strong about it though, and I wouldn't mind if you pass that hand as my partner.

I think winning bridge players can open it one club or with a pass if partner expects you to be very sound.

I pass. Clubs is the wrong suit in which to open light: a clear opener if the 6 card suit was a major, but light 1♣ bids take away no bidding space... in fact, they make the opps's entry into the auction easier than does a pass, and I can and probably will bid later. I don't like J's, and the rule of 20 is not something that I ever expect to pay any attention to.

Well, since it's no longer unanimous, I open 1 club.

I can show this hand well as an opener, and I have no methods to show a 4 card major/6 card minor with an overcall. If it went three passes and then 1 diamond or 1 spade, I don't like any of my possible bids.

I also don't like my choices if my partner opens 1 spade third hand.

I think passing now just puts off the pain. There's too few losers in this hand to pass throughout the auction.

I would open it because it has 3-4 in the majors but its very very close. Wouldn't fault a pass at all.

Both hands have three spade losers...tough to look at that and see 10 tricks. Of course, I could make alternative hands where the bidding would have been the same as Jilly's but have gone down, but I'm not so sure that if Jilly doesn't open that game is still reached.

And if that was all that is to bidding, people would still be passing bad 13 counts...

Playing standard, it's a very marginal opener.

Playing some sort of EHAA/F-N system or a strong club system, it's a 2C opener.

This hand has good playing prospects in clubs as well as both majors. I would open it but I think it is close.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
